It Takes a Village: Lessons from a Week on the Campaign Trail

What a week it has been! ☀️ From campaigning door-to-door, volunteering, to answering your emails and messages, I have been learning so much about the wonderful people who make up the Township of Langley.



Here are my three biggest takeaways from the week:


  • Lesson 1: People truly love the TOL. I kept hearing variations of the same sentiment: "The Township of Langley is the most beautiful place to live!" While residents certainly have valid concerns, the overwhelming pride for our community is undeniable.


  • Lesson 2: Our community gives back. I am incredibly inspired by how many people volunteer. While I was helping out at the Langley Rams football game, friends and neighbours were giving their time to the Fort Langley Jazz Festival, the Langley Hospice Society Fundraiser, and the Philip Hackman Family Fun Night—and we know this is just a small snapshot of the incredible events taking place this past weekend. What an amazing, supportive community.


  • Lesson 3: We live in a stunning area. This week, I explored the beautiful Houston Trail in Derby Reach and enjoyed brunch at the Otter Trail Winery. The 248th Street corridor is a spectacular testament to our local farming and agritourism businesses!


The Reality of Running a Campaign

Another vital lesson I have learned is that the old cliché "it takes a village" absolutely applies to running a campaign. Even before the official election period begins, the costs of reaching voters add up quickly.


That is why I am reaching out to ask for your support. Real change starts with grassroots action, and we can achieve so much more for our schools when we work together.
