Why Governance, Experience, and Non-Partisanship Matter for SD35

As an educator and parent, I firmly believe that politics do not belong in schools. The choices made in the board room directly impact our community—specifically, the 27,600 students and nearly 5,000 staff members within the Langley School District.

Politics do not belong in schools — we must represent all students as trustees.

As an independent candidate, staying non-partisan is fundamental to making solid decisions that benefit the entire district, rather than following partisan directives.

When voting for a School Trustee, it is crucial to understand that trustees do not run schools or manage day-to-day operations. Instead, they govern the system. This governance requires:

  • Listening deeply to local communities.

  • Staying informed on the School Act, local policies, ministry mandates, and collective agreements.

  • Evaluating the superintendent, setting long-term plans, and overseeing the annual budget.

Understanding this distinction between daily operations and governance is essential for every voter. We need a functioning, effective board. That means electing leaders with proven experience in public education who can collaborate, build consensus, and meet system-wide needs.

Why Vote for Tina Patterson?

  • 25+ Years of Teaching Experience: My background goes far beyond the classroom, including serving on numerous district committees and holding diverse educational roles.

  • Deep Local Roots: As a long-time Township of Langley resident, I raised two children who graduated from Walnut Grove and Langley Secondary School (LSS).

  • Community Involvement: I have actively volunteered on school PACs and the DPAC, giving me a firsthand understanding of our district's unique strengths and challenges.

Every vote shapes the future of our classrooms. This October, I encourage everyone in the Township of Langley to make their voices heard.

Vote Tina Patterson for SD35 School Trustee. My commitment to you is simple: I will listen, ask the right questions, and always keep public education and our students at the forefront.
